Formation
Nursery and preschool church provide a nurturing place for our youngest children while parents participate in church worship services. Screened adults and high school youth staff the nursery for children ages 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Kindergarten-Grade 1/Grades 2 - 5
Children's Christian Formation during the second hour uses Menno Media's Shine curriculum to serve children, preschool through grade five. Shine builds on Anabaptist values and teaches that the central theme of the Bible is best expressed in the life of Jesus Christ. It emphasizes Bible stories, community, peacemaking, and spiritual practices.
In JMYF (Junior Mennonite Youth Fellowship), we build on what they learned as elementary-aged students in Sunday School.
Specific emphases include

knowing they are loved and valued by God

learning the Biblical story

engaging with key concepts of the Anabaptist faith (believer’s baptism and non-violence)

learning more about Jesus

making connections between faith and relevant issues in their lives

participating in service to others

celebrating individual giftings

connecting with the larger AMC community

building relationships with each other

discovering their own ways of expressing faith
In MYF (Mennonite Youth Fellowship), we go deeper into what they learned in Junior MYF.
Specific emphases include

going deeper into expressions of faith through worship, prayer, Bible Study, fellowship, service, and other youth activities (including with youth from other conference churches)

accompanying each other in personal growth, transformation, and care
-
learning to know and honor other faith expressions within in our various contexts
-
having fun together!
Adult Second Hour Formation
The Second Hour Committee guides the adult formation life of Akron Mennonite Church by selecting classes that deepen faith, reflect our Anabaptist‑Mennonite identity, and support our mission to follow Christ in daily life. We draw on the gifts and interests of our congregation to offer learning experiences that inspire, equip, and connect us with our neighbors and the wider world.
